Here are some highlights of philanthropy at work in 2009:
Programs and Services
Breast Cancer Navigator
$214,000 – funding a navigator, a trained registered nurse who guided 364 women through the process of treatment and recovery and assisted another 233 patients with non-cancerous disease.
Child Life/Pediatrics
$48,300 – helping more than 8,400 pediatric patients cope with the stress of hospitalization and medical treatment through Child Life Specialists and special events.
BEAR Care Center
$100,000 – supporting the Bridging Evidence Assessment and Resources Care Center, which delivers health care services to victims and families of child abuse and provides prevention tools for child abuse and neglect.
Memory Clinic
$50,000 – funding the Sutter Neuroscience Institute’s Memory Clinic—new in 2009—offering patients a multidisciplinary approach to evaluate and treat memory loss.
Programs for Cancer Patients
$617,518 – offering a broad range of free programs, serving more than 2,600 cancer patients and their families last year.
Sutter Samaritan
$88,125 – Connecting 115 uninsured and low income patients recently discharged from the hospital with needed items and services including medications, medical equipment, clothing, temporary lodging and transportation.
Advanced Technology
Cath Lab Project
$100,000 – upgrading one Cardiac Catheterization Lab and one Electrophysiology Lab, and funding new monitors that offer better images for diagnosis and treatment.
Telepsychiatry Equipment
$10,000 – improving psychiatric consultations in response to the growing number of Emergency Department patients in need of psychiatric evaluation and care.
Ultrasound System for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
$27,200 – supporting an ultrasound system to enable PICU critical care specialists, general surgeons and cardiovascular surgeons to safely and quickly insert venous catheters in infants and children.
Neurodiagnostic EEG
$200,000 – funding equipment for neurodiagnostic testing, allowing our specialists to accurately diagnose neurological conditions in pediatric and adult patients in order to create the best treatment plans.
Facilities and Infrastructure
Master Plan Project
$2.6 million –helping to build our innovative new medical center designed to deliver advanced, patient-centered care in a healing environment.
Sutter Center for Psychiatry
$20,000 - funding aesthetic improvements to patient care areas at Sutter Center for Psychiatry.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
$11,000 – purchasing rocking chairs and other furnishings for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit parents’ suite.

Research and Clinical Trials
$280,000 – funding National Cancer Institute research and Sutter Institute for Medical Research clinical trials to create a healthier future for our patients.
Sutter Resource Library
$177,000 – supporting a free resource for patients and family members that provides the latest medical information from reliable sources.
